Development of New Top Slide for Ball and Radius Shape Cutting on Conventional Lathe Machine

Abstract: It is important to produce the product with high accuracy and high quality. Manufacturing company needs to improve and develop a method of cutting on machine tools. The method of cutting on conventional lathe machine for ball and radius shape is known to be not accurate and the production is taken for a long time. On the other hand, the Computer Numeric Control (CNC) lathe machine have been using for cutting ball and radius shape. This method, however, needs higher cost for the production system. Therefore, the design and fabricated of new top slide for conventional lathe machine is required. The vibration of new top slide analyzed by SolidWork is investigated. The effectiveness of the development method is evaluated by several experiments. It is reported that the mechanical vibration of the original technique is improved and the surface roughness of the Workpiece using the development method is improved 50% from the original one.
