A Brief History
Political changes in Timor-Leste altered the Indonesian government's education system across all sectors, including polytechnic education in Dili (specifically the Diploma II program). During the decade of Indonesian administration, the state and the Timorese people placed great emphasis on this sector, constructing magnificent facilities for the technical training of Timorese citizens; today, however, only ruins remain. This situation has caused us profound distress. We closely monitored the construction work, as it offered hope for technical education. Consequently, we strongly supported the creation of this department within the Faculty of Engineering and the establishment of the Diploma III program at the National University of Timor Lorosa'e (UNTL). Operations commenced on October 17, 2000. We recognize that significant challenges lie ahead; nonetheless, we remain confident that, in collaboration with UNTL, we will succeed in building a modernized technical education system.
