**Dili, Hera, October 16, 2024** — The Faculty of Engineering, Science, and Technology (Portuguese acronym: FECT) received a visit from a delegation representing eight major construction companies from Japan. The purpose of this visit was to conduct an information session on current developments in Japan's construction industry and to present the essential criteria that young engineers from the Faculty of Engineering must fulfill to secure employment with these companies. The delegation emphasized that Japan requires young engineers who possess strong technical expertise, innovative capabilities, and effective teamwork skills. Furthermore, the main requirement for potential candidates is a command—or at least a foundational understanding—of the Japanese language. They highlighted that Japanese language proficiency will significantly support integration and work efficiency within the Japanese corporate environment. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Science, and Technology, Professor Adalfredo G. da Silva Ximenes, M.Eng., expressed his sincere gratitude for the strong relations existing between Timor-Leste and Japan, particularly acknowledging the ongoing support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Dean noted that the UNTL Faculty of Engineering is well known throughout Timor-Leste due to the support of the Japanese community, which has contributed significantly through collaboration with JICA.> *"We strive for our dreams, and your presence at this Faculty will help transform our lives toward a better future for Timor-Leste,"* stated the Dean. He added that the relationship between Japan and the UNTL Faculty of Engineering is not new, but rather rooted in a long-standing culture of bilateral cooperation over many years. This visit marks a new chapter in the faculty's history, inspiring young Timorese engineers to continue looking forward. Additionally, the head of the Japanese company delegation, Mr. Motoi Sasaki, explained that the primary objective of the visit was to open career opportunities in Japan for students of UNTL's Faculty of Engineering. This initiative, he noted, will provide a pathway for students to learn, improve, and demonstrate their skills in construction and engineering. He also emphasized that the long-standing friendly relations between Timor-Leste and Japan serve as a vital foundation for this collaboration.> *"Timor-Leste and Japan have developed strong ties of friendship over many years. We are ready to welcome young engineers from the UNTL Faculty of Engineering to work in Japan, with the hope that this will further strengthen the relationship between our two nations,"* said Mr. Sasaki. This landmark visit marks a new chapter in bilateral relations between Japan and Timor-Leste, particularly in technical education and the construction industry. The UNTL Faculty of Engineering looks forward to further expanding international partnerships to prepare a competent generation of engineers ready to compete in the global market. The event was attended by the Dean, Vice Dean, Faculty Board of Directors, JICA Advisor for the Master's Course Mr. Hiroshi Kawanishi, academic staff, the Head of Administration, FECT administrative personnel, and students.
