The Faculty of Engineering, Science, and Technology (with the Portuguese acronym FECT), through its Master's Degree Department in Engineering established in 2024, successfully held the first dissertation defense examinations in 2026 for 8 students from the 2024 cohort. The examinations took place over three days at the FECT Master's Program Room in Hera (14, 22, and 23/01).

The dissertation defense was conducted in accordance with university academic standards, involving a panel of examiners and prioritizing the principles of objectivity, scientific integrity, and research quality. Each student presented and scientifically defended their research findings before the panel of examiners.

Following the completion of the dissertation defenses for the 8 master's students, the Director of the Master's Program in Engineering, Dr. Joviano Antonio da Costa, expressed his appreciation for the students' commitment and hard work since the beginning of their studies. He emphasized that this dissertation exam is a clear demonstration of the development and academic maturity of the Master's Program in Engineering at FECT.

"This dissertation exam is the first for the students in this program, marking a historic moment for the Master's Program in Engineering. We hope that the research produced will not only meet academic standards but also make a real contribution to the development of science and technology, as well as to national development needs," stated Dr. Joviano Antonio da Costa.

He added that the students' success in completing this stage reflects the institution's readiness to provide quality, research-oriented postgraduate education.

The implementation of the dissertation examination represents the final part of the academic process that students must fulfill as a requirement to complete their master's level studies, and serves as an indicator of their academic readiness and scientific contribution in the field of engineering.

A total of 8 master's students participated in this initial phase of dissertation defenses, consisting of 3 female students and 5 male students. All 8 students successfully defended their dissertations and passed the examination.

The Faculty of Engineering, Science, and Technology is committed to continuously strengthening academic quality, research, and innovation through the development of the master's study program, in order to produce competent, professional graduates who can contribute significantly to society and the nation.
