The Faculty of Engineering, Science, and Technology (with the Portuguese acronym FECT), through its Dean, Professor Adalfredo G. da Silva Ximenes, together with faculty members, held a meeting with 10 alumni from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEEE) who are about to begin their professional careers at the national public institution Eletricidade de Timor-Leste (EDTL, E.P.). The meeting took place in Meeting Room I, FECT, Hera (15/01).
During the meeting, FECT Dean Professor Adalfredo G. da Silva Ximenes stated that the placement of the alumni at EDTL is a great opportunity to showcase the quality of the alumni and their real contribution to the electricity sector.
"I am very proud that you are entering the workforce through a strategic institution like EDTL. Always maintain integrity, discipline, and professional ethics, because through your work, the good name of the faculty, department, and university will be elevated alongside you," the Dean stated.
The Dean also encouraged the alumni to continue developing their competencies—both technical and non-technical—according to the demands that arise in the workplace.
"The knowledge that you have acquired on campus, especially in the department, will serve as the base and foundation. However, what determines career sustainability is the willingness to learn, perseverance, and adaptability. As good alumni, you must demonstrate good character and ethics in the workplace," he added.
In the same venue, the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Professor Frederico de Carvalho, emphasized the importance of demonstrable work readiness and a professional attitude within the institution.
"From day one, you must demonstrate good work: punctuality, responsibility, teamwork, and you must comply with safety procedures. Technical competence is important, but a professional attitude must be demonstrated in order to gain trust," the Head of Department stated.
The meeting took place in a friendly and interactive environment, giving alumni the opportunity to share their perspectives and show their readiness to face the challenges of the professional world. Through this activity, the Faculty of Engineering affirms its commitment to continuing to support its alumni, thereby strengthening their role in national development, particularly in the energy and electricity sector.
The meeting was attended by the Vice-Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Professor Vital de Jesus Ximenes, as well as other lecturers from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
