Abstract: Sediment disasters such as landslide, surface failure and debris flow occurred frequently by rainfall in Timor-Leste. And much damage has been brought and influenced a national life. Especially, excavation slope and the widening of road with the construction is destabilized for becoming steep slope and cutting down trees. It is very important to know actual condition of the slope failure and the geotechnical properties to prevent slope failure and a countermeasure work.
This study focuses on surface failure which occurred abundantly with construction and widening of road in Balibo-Leolima. And three typical slopes that surface failure occurred in 2015 are selected. This study is aimed that clarified the actual condition of surface failure, the geotechnical property of surface soil and examining the slope stability. And four samples from each slope for soil testing in laboratory were collected. Index property tests were carried out, and stability analysis was done using by the result of direct shear test. Furthermore, the countermeasure for prevention of surface failure was proposed.
